Brazil - Independence Day - September 7

September 7 is Brazil's Independence Day, a day when Brazilians celebrate their freedom and history... and, of course, they also celebrate it in-game! With such a large community within Tibia, many are likely already familiar with it. And if not, we’ll tell you: it all began in 1822 when then-Prince Pedro decided it was time for Brazil to be independent of Portugal. With his famous cry of "Independence or Death," Brazil’s history as a free country began. This cry changed the destiny of an entire nation, and if that doesn't deserve a celebration, what does?

In Brazil, the celebrations for independence flood the streets with the colors of their flag: green, yellow, blue, and white. Cities like Brasília are filled with civic-military parades, where tanks, planes, and soldiers march with precision. The parade not only showcases the country’s military strength but also includes schools, scouts, and civil groups, celebrating Brazil’s cultural diversity. During the event, the National Pavilion is solemnly raised, while the national anthem is sung with pride by all present. Brazil was one of Portugal’s most important colonies due to its natural wealth, such as gold and sugar. However, in the 19th century, tensions between Brazilians and Portuguese rulers grew until, on September 7, 1822, Brazil decided to follow its own path. It’s a historic moment that marked the beginning of the Brazil we know today!

Of course, as with any good celebration, food plays a hugely important role! If you were celebrating with your Brazilian friends, you’d probably be treated to an epic feast. Imagine enjoying a hearty feijoada, that classic Brazilian dish made with black beans, pork, and rice, which would surely give you the energy for a hunting marathon in the Dragon Lair. If you’re more into quick snacks, you could try some coxinhas, a crispy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside delight filled with chicken. But beware: one coxinha leads to another, and you could end up eating them like runes! And if you crave something sweet after all that action, nothing beats a good brigadeiro. This chocolate and condensed milk dessert is everyone’s favorite and the perfect excuse for a sweet break between hunts.

But beyond the joy, September 7 is also a day to reflect on Brazil’s history and progress. Celebrating this date isn’t just about remembering the independence cry of 1822, but honoring the unity and diversity that define Brazil. Brazilian players, both in and out of the game, find in this day an opportunity to celebrate their national identity and share it with the global Tibian community.

Complementing our edition, we have Lorah, a star player from Talera and proud Brazilian, who shares with us how she lives every September 7, Brazil’s Independence Day. With her passion for the game and love for her country, Lorah will tell us how she celebrates this important date while continuing to shine in the Tibian community.

Lorah, on September 7th, are you more likely to shout "Independence or Death" or run to the table full of food?

- Brazilians are a people who always find reasons to get together with friends and family and organize a lunch or dinner. But interestingly, unlike other countries, we don’t have big celebrations on September 7. At least I’ve never seen that. However, we use the holiday to rest or travel if it’s a long weekend, but unfortunately, we don’t have a party specifically for Independence Day.

What typical dish can't be missing in your Independence Day celebration?

- As a vegan, I must say that unfortunately, Brazilians celebrate everything with *churrasco* (barbecue).

Tell us your secret strategy: how do you survive the parade without losing patience or enthusiasm?

- I really enjoy the September 7 parade. I always look forward to the military part because it’s beautiful to see the soldiers, the military equipment, and I also love the aerial acrobatics.

If you could create a new dance for September 7, what would it be? Something between samba and a military dance, perhaps?

- Haha, even though samba is originally from Brazil, I think many people only enjoy it during Carnival, and we completely respect it because it's part of our culture. However, for September 7, it wouldn’t be samba—maybe something like military war chants.

In your opinion, what’s the biggest challenge for a true Brazilian on Independence Day: dancing until dawn or eating non-stop?

- Brazilians love to dance and eat, so I think the biggest challenge would be waking up feeling good on September 8 after so much eating and drinking.

What would be your perfect playlist for September 7? Do you have any patriotic anthems mixed with funk or samba?

- My playlist would be more traditional sertanejo, the famous “moda de viola” or sertanejo universitário. Samba and funk are more for people from the coastal regions—I’m from the countryside, which is like the “Brazilian Texas.”

How do you usually celebrate September 7? Are you the type to go to the parade, or do you prefer a good meal with friends?

- When I was a kid, I went to the parades more often because I also marched with the scouts. Today, I prefer to stay at home and watch the Brasilia parade on TV with my family.

If Brazil were a song, what do you think would be the perfect anthem to play at the Independence Day parade?

- Barbatuques - Baiana. For me, that song perfectly represents Brazil.
